Dr. Gaumet is one of only a very small number of dentists in the country to have dual board certification in Europe as well as in the United States. Dr. Gaumet has a special interest in the field of implant dentistry, treatment of periodontal disease, and smile enhancement. He has over 30 years of experience and has placed nearly 3000 implants.
Dr. Gaumet made the cut to enter dental school after passing, as a first-timer, the grueling –and brutal- competitive exam (“numerus clausus”) which allows candidates to pursue their second year of medical or dental studies. He then completed his undergraduate dental education at the University of Lyon, France where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He subsequently spent nearly a year in Helsinki, studying Oral Health Policies in Finland. That work won him the Outstanding Thesis Award. He was granted his DDS degree (Doctor of Dental Surgery) in 1990.
Upon completion of his general dental education, Dr. Gaumet volunteered with the Auroville Health Center in Pondicherry, India. There, while caring for an underserved rural community, he enhanced his skills and gained invaluable hands-on experience in oral surgery.
Looking to expand his expertise in the field of surgical dentistry, he then went on to complete a strenuous three-year full-time post-graduate education program at the University of Texas in San Antonio, earning a Master of Science degree in biomedical sciences and a Certificate of Specialty in Periodontics and Implant dentistry. Dr. Gaumet was privileged to match at his first choice of Periodontics training residency at this elite department where he was taught by some of the most respected periodontists and implant specialists in the world. Dr. Gaumet was the lead author of an article derived from his clinical research thesis which was published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Periodontology. His research major interest focused on pathologic tooth movements caused by periodontal disease. He also served half a day per week as an assistant clinical professor providing clinical instruction to dental students.
While still in Texas, Dr. Gaumet elected to pursue licensure in the USA. This licensure establishes the professional standards of practice and creates a process to determine whether a dentist meets those rigorous standards. He scored in the 96th percentile among all dentists who took these exams. During that time, Dr. Gaumet was involved with the Chicago Center for Advanced Dentistry whose mission was to introduce world-class dental education and care into Russia. He traveled to Moscow on multiple occasions to teach and practice implant dentistry at this company’s private facility.
After a few years of private practice in Seattle and upon his return to Europe, Dr. Gaumet settled in the Monaco area. He was offered the unique opportunity to join a team of top-notch dentists catering to the discriminating clientele of the French Riviera. There, he acquired invaluable experience in the field of restorative and cosmetic dentistry under his mentor, the legendary, Dr. Serrano.
